Pete Doherty and The Puta Madres Reveal the Video for 'Kolly Kibber'

Pete Doherty and his band, The Puta Madres, released the video for 'Kolly Kibber' today. The track was filmed and recorded live by Roger Sargent in Berlin.

'Kolly Kibber' is going to be released as a limited edition 7" vinyl press, alongside their unreleased cover of Harlem Hamfats' 1936 track entitled 'Weed Smoker's Dream'. You can get your hands on it here: https://PDoherty.lnk.to/storePR.

The track was inspired by the newspaper man who meets a sticky end at the beginning of Graham Greene's 1930 noir masterpiece, Brighton Rock. The first we hear of Pete is a sauntering "Uh huh". Then the visuals deliver as we see him take to the stage with his familiar boyish flounce. Keyboards, courtesy of Katia DaVidas, and Miki Beavis' violins recall the same pounding force as the instrumental opening to Bowie's 'Changes'. The melodies conjure the regretful tones of Kibber's downfall in Brighton Rock, but when Pete declares, "I don't want to end up like Kolly Kibber", it seems as if he might be referring to the story of the real-life Colley Cibber, who Greene ostensibly based his character on. He was an 18th century playwright and poet, who was regarded as a joke by his critics; described as having 'less human genius than God gives an ape' by Alexander Pope. Yep, Pete, definitely do not want to end up like Kibber, do we...
