Track Review: Luna // Veludo Planes

Fasten your seat belts because Veludo Planes are ready for liftoff once again. The quartet soared back onto the radar on Sunday with the release of their new track, ‘Luna’. Their consistent delivery of indie anthems hooks any listener, and this single adds to the addiction.

The band have been busy these past few years by bagging support slots with some big names like The Subways, Circa Waves. Most recently they accompanied Spring King at Portsmouth’s Wedgewood Rooms. It’s no wonder that the boys have picked up local support from the likes of BBC Introducing Solent, who gave ‘Luna’ some well-deserved air play.

‘Luna’ opens with whimsical riffs, akin to the loose style of Australian sage Courtney Barnett. Then, a soft angst of vocal comes in and compliments the nostalgic ’90s grunge guitar sound. Veludo Planes know exactly how to cook up a fresh song with familiar ingredients – the similar song structure they’ve used in the past emerges in this track again. The calm collection just before the storming loud of the chorus makes this song perfect to sing along to in any bedroom, or scream along to in any electric live setting.

As ever, Veludo Planes know how to get a refrain stuck in your head. A combination of fuzzy guitar hooks, driving bass licks and drum beats make the line “Yeah, we’ll keep on movin’ it on” almost impossible to forget. The bridge then cascades into an iridescent instrumental of dreamy indie-pop as ‘Luna’ draws to a close.

Veludo Planes are still flying high, and ‘Luna’ proves that they’re as high as the moon.
